Technology is advancing faster than ever before, and with this generation’s heavy reliance on it, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become one of the newest and most controversial advancements society has made thus far. One of its newest in-development advancements, Sora AI, involves the potential creation of hyper-realistic videos in only a few seconds. Requiring minimal effort and insanely easy access, it can be used by anyone. Although claims were promised, Sora AI is not out for public access yet, but the possibility has already become a popular topic amongst Marriotts Ridge High School students. Text and image based AI already pose problems in allowing anyone to generate whatever they want, often resulting in many feigned works, taking the form of essays, art, or animations. This has caused a stream of debate in the art space on what actually constitutes art as real art. iIs AI art real art? For many, video based AI and its ability to replicate real life in a few simple words, is what ultimately crosses the line. “If they [the public] could make fake video evidence of some person doing something bad, that could cost them their job or their life,” junior Hairong Weng explained. “While Sora AI can be considered good, it cannot be trusted with people.” Amidst the numerous possibilities that Sora AI could encourage, ranging from silly artwork to life threatening crimes, a solution arises amongst those that argue against it: stop the development of AI before it gets any worse. But is this really attainable?
